Pipe Dream and Transmutation

Last week saw

Pipe Dream

installed

at the Wimpfheimer Sculpture Park

(thanks to the good graces of Doug Rice
and  Brian Wendler  and Bill Bendig
of the Hollycroft Foundation)

shortly after
Marya gave a beautiful welcoming
for
a successful homecoming of Odysseus to the Egg

And,

I hope next week
you can come and enjoy
our next edition of Ripostes

as Alice and I exchange
a brief volley of poems
from this Spring
bookended by her flute music
playing

Ferroud’s Bergere Captive

and ending with Jade

Framed and Delivered

Peter Campos came to my studio two days ago
to choose a painting for his apartment
with a lively group of friends
 He selected this one:
Shamanic Trio
Oil on Canvas April 2019, Hanoi, Vietnam

Painter’s Note
Shamanic Trio shows Leonor Fini, Max Ernst and an unknown third artist who looks to me like a young Robert Rauschenberg.  An adolescent eye disease forced Leonor to wear bandages on both eyes.  When she recovered at 17 she decided to become an artist and she joined theParis art scene in 1924.  Posing with Max Ernst for a surrealist moment with feathers and the Virgin Mary, she looks ready for a parade I want to join with this painting.

It was painted in my studio on the corner of Lạc Chinh and Trần Tế Xương streets on Trúc Bạch island, Hanoi, Vietnam..

Today, on a bike ride, Faye and I discovered
the painting already framed
ready to be delivered
as follows:

The Long Necklace of Buddha

Like a young Noguchi

Tiep is a sculptor and architect
living beauty

I met him through my dear friend, Lan Tue
who is creating yet a new Zen Spa
in a quiet and chic part
of the Hoy Tay Lake District of Ha Noi.

One morning she asked me to meet her at Tet Deco
his restaurant next door to her new house

and when he offered
to take us all

to his country place

very close to the airport
we fell in love

He discovered this place
in Dai Lai twelve years ago
with a xe om driver
who could not believe
he was interested in buying this muddy hill
so far from the city
(at that time before
today's new highways
and the Top Ten Resort
which borders it).

Now Tiep has a beautiful farm and tea plantation

plentiful with pampelmo,
wild potato, flower, and pig

seven little houses he has designed
for visiting friends

thinking of old ways and new
to love the land.

He offers you to come
and live simply for a week
or a month or two
in his paradise..

Bring meditative
creative friends

to enjoy his loving artful style together

in an ever growing
new landscape architecture.

You can be part of

his visionary sculpture.

as he gently welcomes all of us
to enter his dream

of "the real Viet Nam and new  ancient spaces

still unfolding from many hard working ancestors

where Tet happens every day"

You can make his heart sing

Tet Tuyet

Tet is coming, bringing ever warmer weather

to Tuyet greeting baby blossoms bicycling on trees.

Quiet drones
make Spring landings
in Hanoian parks

and Suzanne springs to life
in her new ArtVietnam gallery

 wearing Maritta's colors
with experimental youth
on Ly Quoc Su.

Mark's found quiet in a Gallant part of town

while Duy and I discover ourselves
reflected with the self portrait of a new artist

at the Korean Cultural Center

Kim Jung Hyun_Khoang.

Loving Bodhisatvas

thanks to my friend, Zen Lam;

For Buddha's birthday
she invited me for a three day voyage
to visit three temples with her teacher, Thay
staying overnight in monasteries.

Deeply compassionate as a listener
and irresistibly loving,
Thay is also very playful and funny;
I love him.

Although wonderful surprises abounded in all three temple complexes

such as Arjuna as an early Buddha being guided out of the woods at Tay Tien

and dawn fog lifting around a very high mountaintop Buddha on his birthday, at Yen Tu,

my favorite monastery is Ha Long

         overlooking the famously endless bay
                                full of spirit rock islands:

This is the view from the living room
                      for fortunate guests
                                above the monastery

                                      where Thay likes to visit
talk to the abbess and do his email..

                                          Painting visitors
together with the view from there

I made a panoramic scroll of the view.

Thay painted the lotus bud on the temple roof below

                                        opening

which is interesting

because
back in his monastery in HaNoi
       set in the center
of the floor of zen mats

up above the hall of Buddhist teachings

right in the middle of the upper room

where the original teachers of Viet Nam reside

                                           is a case of aspirations:

Long before Franklin, Leyden,
Edison, Tesla and Reich,
the study of lightning rods
and enlightening energies
were viewed as closer together
than they are now:

Could proof of this
be in blinking, illuminated
past finials?

Come investigate.

In the meantime
here's a link
