Belleville

Only a little jet lagged

Marya and I found our way
further down George V

to the very busy American Cathedral

where Toasty, her sister, was first married

in the chapel on the other side

and our host, a local opera singer
(long after appearing as Holofernes
in a Merchant Ivory film)

showed us to his exquisite rooms
where he has opened a place for himself
in the attic

and we took him out to dinner with a cat

at his favorite local restaurant
around the corner
from the most beautiful view of Paris
afforded by Belleville

and we found the clouds opening
on I.M.Pei's pyramid at the Louvre

on our way to see Bonnard's looser views

and Surtout la Table
at the Musée d'Orsay

where we accidentally came upon shadow figures
for La Chat Noir writers' nightclub

and Cezanne's dream

amused
by Odalisque

until we began to levitate

for our train to Austria
with love
and hugs
d and Marya
